5 Tips for Winterizing Your Home

December 19, 2024

‘Tis the season to prepare your home for winter! At Boone Contracting, we know how important it is to keep your home safe and warm during the colder months. That’s why we’ve put together 5 simple tips to help you prepare your home for the season ahead.

1. Seal Drafts

Check for drafts around doors and windows and re-seal them with weatherstripping. Pay special attention to corners and areas where different materials meet.

2. Inspect Your HVAC

Be sure to schedule a professional inspection of your furnace or heat pump to ensure it’s working efficiently. If you are traveling this holiday season, consider upgrading your thermostat so you can adjust your furnace as needed.

3. Insulate Pipes

Protect your pipes from freezing by insulating exposed plumbing and disconnecting outdoor hoses. If temperatures drop significantly overnight, let your faucets drip slightly to prevent pressure build-up and pipes bursting.

4. Clean Gutters & Downspouts

Clear leaves and debris from your gutters to prevent water back-up and ice damage. Check to make sure your downspouts direct water away from your home’s foundation.

5. Inspect Your Exterior

Check for cracks or gaps in siding or foundations. Seal any openings to prevent cold air, moisture, or pests from entering your home.

When a space feels outdated, dim, or cramped, it can negatively impact productivity and make the workday feel more challenging than it needs to be.
