Historic Home & Building Renovations in Central Kentucky

July 7, 2025

Central Kentucky is home to some of the most beautiful historic architecture, from grand Victorians to century-old farmhouses and unique structures like old train depots. That’s why at Boone Contracting, we specialize in honoring history while updating homes and businesses for modern living.

Historic renovations come with unique challenges. Many older buildings are protected by historical overlay districts, which mean any updates must meet specific preservation standards. These guidelines help protect the character of the structure but require extra care and planning when it comes to design, materials, and layout changes.

Our recent renovation of Franfort’s Union Station is a great example of this balance. We removed non-original walls to restore the building’s open layout, refinished the original wood staircase, and installed new flooring throughout. We also remodeled five restrooms and the kitchen, incorporating modern functionality while using finishes and tones that respect the building’s time period.

The reward? A space that feels fresh, functional, and timeless, without losing the charm that makes it special.

Whether you're restoring a downtown landmark or updating a home in a historic neighborhood, Boone Contracting brings the experience and attention to detail needed to preserve the past while building for the future.

Your office should be a place where you enjoy spending time. It is where ideas are shared, clients are welcomed, and your team spends a significant portion of their day. When a space feels outdated, dim, or cramped, it can negatively impact productivity and make the workday feel more challenging than it needs to be.
